Take a lesson from Kodak
In 1975, Steve Sasson, presented a prototype digital camera to his bosses at Kodak only to be told that it was a terrible idea because it would kill their highly profitable film and printing sheet business. Rather than disrupting themselves with an improved consumer centric offer, they opted to keep things ticking along as they were. Even after Fuji Film officially launched the first commercially produced digital camera, they still opted to use their resources trying to convince consumers that the digital experience would never replace the feeling of holding and touching a physical photograph. Kodak had become complacent and failed to see the signs that they were about to be disrupted – such as rapidly changing technology, a desire for ease and convenience, increased mobility and a growing trend for instant gratification – resulting in their untimely demise.
To drive real change, to truly impact the world in a relevant and meaningful way, we need to embed “better business” principles into your DNA, so that all activities are seamlessly aligned in an impactful and purposeful manner.
